Luca Wadham is a sought-after viola player who performs regularly with various internationally renowned orchestras such as the Sinfonia of London, Zürich Opernhaus, Philharmonia Zürich, Musikkollegium Winterthur

Sinfonia of London

Born in London, 2000, Luca Wadham began his musical education at the Guildhall String Training Programme aged 5. From 2012 onwards, he studied with Sarah-Jane Bradley at the Royal College of Music Junior Department where he formed the basis of his artistic voice. He then studied with Martin Outram at the Royal Academy of Music, until achieving a Master’s degree in Viola Performance in 2024. After completing his studies in London, Luca decided to continue his musical career in Switzerland. In 2025 Luca moved to Zürich

 graduated from the Royal Academy of Music (RAM), studying with Martin Outram. During this time he gained rich orchestral experience under conductors such as Sir Mark Elder, Semyon Bychkov and Ed Gardner. Chief among his influences was John Wilson, with whom he now regularly works as a member of the award-winning Sinfonia of London. He has taken part in the Aldeburgh Festival at Snape Maltings, recorded multiple discs for Chandos and Decca Records and played at the Sinfonia of London BBC Proms at the Royal Albert Hall. He joined their annual National Tour of the UK with Sheku Kanneh-Mason in October 2024. As a Britten Pears Young Artist, he played the solo viola part for a televised BBC production of Benjamin Britten’s ‘Curlew River’ shortly after performing several shows in Blythburgh Church, to which the opera was dedicated.

He is a passionate chamber musician, often touring Italy, Portugal and Belgium with renowned accordionist Mario Stefano Pietrodarchi as a member of a string quintet. He most recently played in the newly established Auditorium Giovanni Arvedi in Cremona. His enthusiasm in this field has led to collaborations with Lawrence Power, Adrian Brendel, English Chamber Orchestra, Knussen Chamber Orchestra, the Maggini, Brodsky, Doric and Marmen Quartets and Quartetto di Cremona. 

As a soloist, he most recently performed a solo work by Jesse Jones, Amorphia, as part of the RAM 200 PIECES bicentenary series in the Duke’s Hall. He has also participated in a number of masterclasses, most notably with Timothy Ridout at RAM and  ex-principal of the Berlin Philarmonic Wolfram Christ at Bishop Strings in London. His repertoire includes all major viola concertos, solo recitals, recitals with piano and chamber orchestras. In his tenure at the Royal College of Music Junior Department, he was awarded Highly Commended in the Freda Dinn and Iba Mabbett String Prize. During that time he also performed Brahms’ Viola Sonata no.1 in the Cecil Aronowitz Festival in Birmingham Conservatoire.
